As I read the textbook discussion over national curriculum development, it led me to refect over the recently adopted Common Core Standards (CCS). The State of Kansas recently moved into the stage of developing a plan to transition from our current curriculum into the CCS, with the base standards plus 15 percent.
We're moving toward a model where national standards will serve as a foundation for our each state, offering the states a more consistent framework to guide our instruction. I like the idea of having a sturdy foundation - one developed collaboratively among educational leaders and supported by the states.
